Opportunity areas
In October 2016, the Secretary of State for Education announced targeted support for six Opportunity Areas, identified as having the greatest need and the lowest rates of social mobility in England. In January 2017, six further areas were added which included West Somerset.
The Opportunity Area project has seen local partnerships formed with early years providers, schools, colleges, businesses, charities and local authorities to ensure all children have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
