Safeguarding Statement

We recognise our moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils. We endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming environment where children and young people are respected and valued. We are alert to the signs of abuse and neglect and follow our procedures to ensure children and young people receive effective support, protection and justice.

Safeguarding

Knights Templar Community Church School has a Designated Safeguarding Lead, Mrs Laura Weaver, and the Deputy Safeguarding Leads are Mrs Alex Walker and Mrs Lucy Seldon. Our Safeguarding Governor is Miss Hannah Dellow.

All other staff are trained to at least Level 1 - Basic Child Protection Awareness- which is refreshed every two years and all our staff have an enhanced DBS check. Regular updates are given to staff on safeguarding processes and local procedures.

If you have any concerns regarding safeguarding / child protection, please come in and talk to the Designated Lead.

Somerset LSCB (Local Safeguarding Children's Board)

The Somerset Local Safeguarding Children's Board has a statutory duty to co-ordinate how agencies work together to safeguard and promote the well-being of children and young people in Somerset and to ensure the effectiveness of the safeguarding arrangements.

Prevent

"Prevent" relates to the Counter Terrorism and Security Act 2015 which came into force on 1 July 2015.

Since July 2015, there has been a duty on schools to have "due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism".   This is called "The Prevent Duty".

"Prevent" is part of the Government's counter terrorism strategy.   Its aim is to stop more people from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism in all its forms.

All our staff have completed Prevent Training.   Our designated Prevent Lead is Mrs Laura Weaver.
